Saving Rotties

Above is Spencer, formerly Maurice, who came from Powhatan County Animal Control, VA in December of 2011, found as a stray in a state park. He was flown by a Pilots n Paws pilot, name unfortunately I have lost, to a small Maryland airstrip. I picked him up in MD. I bet the pilot remembers him, he was muzzled and crated for the trip, and got his muzzle off in the crate during the flight. He was a handful to get on the plane. Spencer was extremely fear aggressive with all people, but more so with men. I knew this going into it. I fostered him, and soon realized he was not a candidate for adoption. It has been a long road, and he will always need good management, but he is still here with me, my love, and will always have a safe haven in my home. He sleeps in bed with me every night, and we have such a strong bond. He is a gentle soft soul, he just needed to be able to learn to trust. God and Spencer only know what he had gone through to be so damaged, but he will never have to fear any person again. He has never bitten anyone, and is accepting to the many dogs I have fostered over the years. This is not your usual success story, I’m sure…sweet dog, friendly..not his story. Nevertheless, without Pilots n Paws getting him close enough for me to get him, his story would have ended sadly as just another rottweiler put to sleep in a shelter over run with too many nice dogs needing homes too. God bless that pilot, I have often wondered if he had any idea how much that damaged dog would end up being so very loved and cherished.
My experience today with pilot Jeff, and 4 years ago, brings tears to my eyes. Please know what an important service you are providing, and how grateful are so many people across this country. You don’t just move dogs, you spread love. Is there any greater calling in this life?
